The Friday Rant: I’m not very forgiving

I have to tell you, I’m not always a forgiving person. With little things — my husband’s comments about my chicken the other day (he said he drank two glasses of Cool-Aid, one sip of his drink for every bite of the, okay, very dry chicken) — I’m almost too forgiving. I could probably get some serious flowers out of the guy if I could maintain a grudge for a while.

More serious things, however, I just can’t let go. I take a lot from my friends, but there is a straw that will break this camel’s back, and when that happens, there’s no going back. I’ve tried, but whatever I felt is just gone.

One thing I don’t forgive easily is domestic violence. Any guy who beats on a woman is coward, a worm. He’s not a man. He’s a wimp who can’t fight someone his own size, so he tries to puff up his pathetic ego by beating on someone who can’t fight back.

So I was really a little irritated watching the Grammys and seeing the general sucking-up going on with Chris Brown. If you’re over the age of thirty or don’t have teenagers, you probably don’t know him, but he’s the guy who beat up fellow singer Rhianna, even biting her — biting! — in 2009.

Now, just a couple years later, people at the Grammy’s were practically in tears, clapping for him, putting their hands to their hearts, giving him a standing ovation. Ken Ehrlich, the producer of the Grammys, said he was “kind of rooting” for the singer. You think? They let him perform twice, like time alone had healed everything, forgiven everything.

Except for me. And Miranda Lambert.

She was a Tweeting fiend. “He beat on a girl…not cool that we act like that didn’t happen.”

In classless wife-beater fashion, he tweeted back, “HATE ALL U WANT BECUZ I GOT A GRAMMY Now! That’s the ultimate F— OFF!” He could have been a man and said, “Hey, I understand your feelings. I will continue to do everything I can to regain people’s trust and good feelings.” But why would I expect a girlfriend-beating jerk to have class?

Speaking of dumb as a fence-post, some of Brown’s idiots, I mean fans, tweeted some amazingly misogynist crap, which is surprising because they’re women: “I don’t know why Rihanna complained. Chris Brown could beat me anytime he wanted to.” (Buzzfeed.com)

Miranda Lambert wasn’t the only one to complain. Michelle Branch tweeted, “Trying not to go off on a rant but … Chris Brown … (bites tongue) have we forgiven him?”

I almost wish he would have tried that crap with Miranda Lambert. Have you heard her song “Gunpowder and Lead”? This girl would track you down and make you hurt. You sure wouldn’t beat on her twice. I hope she doesn’t back down like Usher did when he publicly apologized for slamming Brown.

If I didn’t already love that girl, I sure would now.
