I watched this video just now of two young men robbing a 71-year-old convenience mart clerk. At first, it seemed like it would be okay — they took him to the floor behind the counter, but then they stood him up at the cash register and he opened the drawer. They were gesturing at him and he was waving his hands — maybe they wanted him to get down on the floor and he didn’t want to. So one of the guys body-slammed this old man to the floor and punched and kicked him a couple of times. Then his buddy climbed on top of the old man and punched him over and over, probably ten times.
What the hell has happened to young people? I just don’t remember this kind of violence when I was young. Certainly not to an old man. A young man wouldn’t get caught dead hurting old people — it was the instant wuss label for anyone who did that. Everyone would beat your butt.
I see these fights on Youtube, I hear about cyberbullying, I hear about kids being mean in school, way meaner than they were when I was a kid, and I wonder how the children of hippies, of people who believed in peace and love, turned out like this. Not enough supervision? Too low expectations?
I don’t know, but to the two guys who beat a defenseless old man, two on one, we knew what you were in our day — and in your hearts, you know what you are now. Better go buy some dresses, boys, because you aren’t men.
